Going paperless -- need ideas

Postby Pacsl » Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:55 pm

I'm a small practice and I'm seriously running out of space for files. Trying to go digital. What do you do for paperwork that needs to be signed? Anyone know anything about digital signatures? Or whether it's legally binding for parents to check an "I agree" box or click an "I agree" button in lieu of signature? I figure if it's good enough for credit card payments, it must be a legally binding way to sign.

Also, anyone know of a secure website that is HIPAA compliant for sending patient info (e.g., reports, completed enrollment paperwork)? I tried encryption software, but both parties have to install it and it's a huge pain.

Thanks for any ideas.

There are programs and systems for signing electronically. However, they are not cheap and probably would not be ideal for a small practice.
